Tired of Being Lonely?

A smile would look so much better.

You might think feeling lonely can only hurt you emotionally, but a new study shows that being alone could hurt you in the bedroom too – and not in the way you think. Loneliness can impact your feeling of insecurity, and in turn, impact how well you sleep.

The study, done by researchers at the Department of Health Studies at the University of Chicago, shows a strong relationship between loneliness and restless sleep. It has been known that loneliness can have an adverse effect on health, and researchers wanted to delve deeper into how sleep is impacted by this feeling.

Sleep is a key component in staying healthy, and the amount of sleep that is actually interrupted for a lonely person is no coincidence. Out of the 95 adults tested, higher loneliness scores were linked directly to higher levels of fragmented sleep. Even though the amount of sleep and the degree of daytime drowsiness were not linked to feeling alone, having a restless night’s sleep is enough to ruin your day and slow you down.

The probable reason for the connection is the desire to feel secure in whatever social environment you might be in–and the subconscious way your insecurities show in your daily routine. Even if you are not aware how lonely you are feeling, it comes out when you are not even thinking about it.

Numerous nights of restless sleep will catch up to you and start to impact how you live your life while you are awake. People, especially young, busy women like us, often forget the importance of a good night’s rest. When you are even a little drowsy, you are not at the top of your game–no matter how good you think you are at running on little to no sleep. Often times it seems like a challenge to “pull-an-all-nighter” or figure out the least amount of sleep needed to stay awake and get things done. Be careful not to squeeze so much into one day on poor sleep. You might not realize it, but you will get a lot more quality work done on a full, uninterrupted sleep schedule.

Unfortunately, it is sometimes hard to avoid feeling solitary, and more often than not, this feeling comes out at night when you are in bed alone. Without someone by your side, it is inevitable to feel on your own, but such insecurities should not get so out of hand that they impact your health. There is nothing wrong with longing for a companion, but sometimes all it takes is a little thinking in the right direction to get your feelings back on track.

If you believe your loneliness could be affecting your sleep cycle, create a nightly routine to ease your mind. Just like brushing your teeth, make sure to go through a list of all the people in your life who are close to you and care for you–not just lovers, but family and friends too. Once you give it a good thought, chances are, you are not as close to as lonely as you think. Young women sometimes feel if they do not have a significant other, they are “alone”, but anyone in your life who loves you is one less reason to feel lonely.

When to Raid Your BF’s Closet

His or hers… or both?

A lot of womenswear is based on menswear designs, so why not go straight to the source and utilize what your boyfriend has in his closet? We’ve compiled a list of items that will look as good on you as they do on him…so he won’t mind if you borrow them indefinitely!

1. Button Downs
Sometimes his button down can be more versatile than yours. They key is to make it look intentional and not look like you’re doing the walk-of-shame. Cuff the sleeves if they’re too long and wear it open with a tank underneath and leggings. For another look, try buttoning it up and wearing it underneath a cropped sweater so the hem peaks out.

Try: H&M Button Down

2. Hats
Got a guy who has a hat collection that would rival Bruno Mars’s? Take advantage of it! There is not as much variance in hat sizes as there are in clothing sizes, so chances are one of his hats
will fit you. A floppy knit hat or a beanie is a great unisex hat because they stretch to accommodate any head size, big or small. As for baseball caps, leave those for him, unless you’re going for a jog or to a sporting event.

Try: Topman Bowler Hat

3. Briefcases/Satchels
There are bags made for guys and, no, they’re not all murses. The men’s bag section can sometimes rival the women’s. A guy’s chunky leather briefcase would be your perfect weekend or gym bag. They have great structure and, unlike a lot of our bags, aren’t adorned with logos and prints, so they work with a multitude of things in your closet.

Try: Zara Briefcase

4. Chunky Watch
For those girls who want a watch that has major impact, try borrowing your man’s. The bigger face and chunky band create as much drama on your wrist as a statement cuff, so you won’t have to accessorize as much. Just be careful that the watch is not too loose. You don’t want to have to replace it because it slipped off your hand during dinner!

Try: Guess Watch

Let’s All Celebrate Cute Wednesday!

No occasion needed!

Looking your best everyday is important, because when you look your best, you feel your best. So we should have a day to celebrate being our best! Welcome to your new favorite weekly holiday, Cute Wednesday!

My mother always taught me that it’s important to look your best every day, because you never know who you are going to meet. And I have taken that life lesson very seriously! However, we all have days where we just want to give in and put on those sweatpants that are calling our names, slip into our disgustingly beat-up Uggs and throw our hair in a ponytail. It happens.

I can’t pretend that I don’t have days like this. In fact, since I’ve been going to college, these days happen often, way more often than they ever did in high school! However, I always reserve one day a week that, no matter what the weather is like, how I’m feeling, or how loudly those sweatpants scream, I will look my absolute cutest. It’s called Cute Wednesday!

I’ve celebrated Cute Wednesday for as long as I can remember. Cute Wednesday is reserved for my cutest outfit of the week. Sometimes I plan Cute Wednesday two or three days before! I get up earlier than 20 minutes before class, actually spend time on my hair and makeup, and put on my cutest look. The question I always ask myself is: Would Seventeen or Glamour approve? If the answer is yes, then I have achieved my Cute Wednesday look.

Recently, I’ve started a “What I Wore Today” section of my blog, in which on a somewhat daily basis I will post my outfits and write where I got each piece. So this has kind of forced me to go back to before my lazy fashion days, back when I tried to look cute enough so I would receive at least one compliment every day. That is my goal on Cute Wednesday: either receive a compliment or catch the attention of a cute boy! Both, of course, are preferable.

If I go shopping during the weekend and pick up a cute new dress, it is usually reserved for Wednesdays. If I find a top that I used to love but forgot about, I decide to work it in a new way, (like with a pair of high waisted pants or a cute skirt) and that would be a Cute Wednesday look!

Once I told my friends about my Cute Wednesday tradition, of course they were all jealous and many of them started to celebrate with me! Even my guy friends! I encourage you to start dressing up for Cute Wednesday as well. I chose the middle of the week because it’s so easy to fall into the middle of the week slump of jeans and t-shirts, because you just can’t wait for Saturday. But having something to look forward to on Wednesdays actually makes the week go by faster! Plus it’s fun to have all of your friends to dress up with, so pass this article along to them!

My goal by the time I graduate is to have a rule for each day of the week, a la Mean Girls. Maybe soon, since the weather is starting to get chilly, I will start “Sweatpants Thursday!”

Here are the 6 basic rules of any given Cute Wednesday look:

1. Would you want to be photographed in this outfit?

2. Would you want to meet someone new while wearing this?

3. Are there any stains or wrinkles?

4. Do you have shoes that match?

5. Are you dressed appropriately for the weather?

6. Is your outfit cuter than it was on Tuesday or Monday?

Be sure to start your very own Cute Wednesday tradition between you and your group of friends!

Best Body Moisturizing Products

Hydrated skin year round? Yes, please!

With November here, you have to bundle up with lots of layers to keep warm. That is no reason to neglect your body just because it’s hidden under layers of fabric. Fight dry, itchy skin with these products and you’ll feel like exposing a little leg, no matter the temp!

1. Body Wash
Exfoliate dry skin and add moisture back at the same time with a rich body wash. This one contains Dove’s special Nutriummoisture formula for an extra dose of moisture.
Try: Dove Go Fresh Revive BodyWash with Nutriummoisture

2. Body Oil
A richer alternative to a cream, oil hydrates skin just as well. Bonus: This one contains ingredients to firm skin and help keep its elasticity.
Try: L’Occitane Almond Supple Skin Oil

3. Body Cream
Don’t stop with just using a moisturizing body wash. Replenish the moisture lost in the shower by using a rich body cream containing shea butter. The Bath and Body Works collection is a favorite since it comes in a variety of scents and is very rich.
Try: Bath and Body Works Signature Collection Body Lotion

4. For Feet
Cold floors and being stuffed into boots mean that your feet need some extra TLC. This cream contains peppermint which gives your feet a pleasant cooling sensation.
Try: C.O. Bigelow Mentha Foot Tingling Foot Cream

5. For Hands
Like your face, your hands are exposed to winter’s elements the most (especially if you forget gloves!). Keep hands feeling silky by slathering on a cream specially formulated for your hands. This one has colloidal oatmeal which soothes while moisturizing.
Try: Aveeno Intense Relief Hand Cream

Your Guide to Online Shopping

I could use a new pair of shoes…

The advancement of technology has aided us in answering homework questions, contacting friends, and networking with job employers. There are millions of things to do while online, and that includes the newest craze of this generation – online shopping! Who doesn’t want to experiment on this newfound hobby? However, there are some issues that might arise when buyers rely on online shopping. Read more for relevant tips and tricks to guide you through this exciting trend!

I’ve been an avid fan of online buying for a while now and I’ve experienced a lot of good and bad times while purchasing goods from various sources over the internet. Here are some of my do’s and don’ts before you type your credit card number onto the site!

Do buy from trusted sources :

Your information is very private and important so it’s important to share it on websites that are safe and legitimate. Also, you don’t want to be fooled by “sellers” and end up not getting the product that you paid for. It’s better to be safe than sorry whenever you are shopping online! The major retailers have their websites on receipts, catalogs, newspapers, and the likes so it’s easy to locate their URL.

Do not buy for the sake of buying:

I know that’s a cute top, but do you really have to buy it? It’s important to remember that it will be more difficult to return an item if you end up not liking it. You either have to get in your car and drive all the way to the mall or ship it back and pay the cost of shipping. Make sure you’re purchasing an item you really want, or else you could have to worry about what to do with it later.

Do read the description of the item:

Once, I bought a printer thinking it had the USB cable included and to my surprise, it didn’t. I had to buy the USB by itself and it came to the mail after 7 days, imagine! It is necessary to read the item description to get to know the product you’re eyeing. For clothes, you want to know the cloth used, so read, read, read! Also, it provides a detailed summary of all the item’s features and freebies so you don’t want to miss out on that.

Do not spend your whole day online shopping:

I completely understand that online shopping can be immensely addicting! However, as a normal human being, you have 100 things to do everyday so drop that mouse and do something. Looking at goods and services on the internet can be very exciting, so as not to be overwhelmed, devote only a specific amount of time when shopping online! Trust me, it’ll be worth it.

Do wait for online coupons and offers:

How marvelous is it to be able to shop online and have free shipping? I know, I know, it’s the most amazing feeling ever! So if you don’t need to buy an item ASAP, wait for the retailers to offer promotional discounts and free shipping! This happens a lot during holidays and end of the season!

Do not go overboard:

If you want a love-love relationship with your wallet, you better save your money and just stare at the screen. Easier said than done, but you’ll live!

Happy shopping!

8 Songs to Keep You Going During Exam Time

Get ready for exams!

Exam season is approaching and, as expected, every professor has scheduled an exam within the same two-day period. Keep yourself going all night with these energizing tunes that will ward off sleep and keep you focused on the task at hand.

It’s exam time. A quick glance at your calendar will leave you feeling dizzy and overwhelmed, so you decide it‘s time to say goodbye to Thirsty Thursdays and say hello to your new home: the library. You forget to invite your friends with you because this time you’re serious about studying, but in the absence of the latest gossip, courtesy of your best friend, you’re suddenly overwhelmed with sleep.

We’ve all been there. I’m the first to admit that I have fallen asleep at every library on campus, but I have realized that good music keeps me going.

Studies have shown that classical music stimulates both parts of the brain, and while you will find Clair de Lune in my “Top 25 Most Played” iTunes playlist, classical music cannot keep me going while I’m already sleepy, so I have turned to what is in my opinion one of the best music marriages of all time: dubstep and classical music.

Just listen.

1. Classical Violin Dubstep

2. Classical Dubstep (Cello)

3. Beethoven Dubstep

4. Chopin Dubstep

5. Orchestral Dubstep

6. Polar – Spring Dubstep

7. Mozart Dubstep

8. Mozart Symphony No 25 Dubstep

Want more? Feel free to explore the realms of Youtube for more of these songs.

What songs do you have on your study playlist?
