Sneaky Ways to Burn Calories

This should drop some pounds, right?
We’re busy girls. We have classes to go to, jobs to work, assignments to complete, and plans to attend to. That being said, there isn’t always enough time in the day to get a workout in. Or is there? Believe it or not, you can torch calories by doing your daily routine if you tweak your movements just a little bit. Before you take off for the day, try these tricks and soon enough, you may find that you’ve shed a pound…or five.


Instead of kneeling down to grab the shoes in the back of your closet, lunge to get them. Lunge with your right leg to grab the right shoe and your left to get the left shoe. Shoes don’t go with your outfit? Lunge when you put them back and lunge to get your new pair. As if pumps didn’t tone your legs already, this minor adjustment will build your thigh muscles in no time.
Brushing your teeth is a boring routine. Spice it up by doing calf raises while you brush. All you have to do is get up on the balls of your feet, return your heels flat to the ground, and repeat. If you’re doing it properly, you should be cleaning your teeth for about two minutes. In the time it takes you to complete this, you’ll have already done close to 50 raises. And if you brush your teeth twice a day, your results will pop up even sooner.
Ever seen a step aerobics class? If not, here’s a little background info: those attending class have a step in front of them which they incorporate into certain routines. Take that same approach when you’re reaching for something on the top shelf. Instead of climbing up on your counter or jumping to reach, get a stepping stool and step up with one foot, letting the other one meet it right after. Come down the same way.
Getting the perfect blow-out is hard enough. Adding oblique crunches to it? Even harder. But no one said working out was easy. While you’re blow-drying the left side of your head, lift your right leg slighty so you’re able to keep balance but work your obliques simultaneously. Do the same for the other side of your head.
We all do it: dance in front of the mirror along to our favorite Taylor Swift song. But perhaps we don’t do it that often. What if I told you it burnt calories, though? You’d probably shake it a lot more. Let this be the best part of your morning routine. Turn up your iHome and dance around! Not only will it torch calories, it’ll wake you up and leave you feeling refreshed.

Okay, so maybe these small movements won’t show you the same results as, say, an hour at the gym would. But give them a chance; these minor adjustments will catch up to you in no time. And when your friends start asking how you did it, shh – don’t reveal your secrets!
