|Secret to great hair? Less showers.|
Let’s face it, ladies, whether it’s spending too much time in a chlorinated pool or achieving the perfect bombshell blowout for a sexy date night, we are all guilty of being a little too harsh with our hair at times. This can sometimes result in fried stringy hair or nasty split ends. Read on to find out how to keep your hair soft and healthy – even in this hot summer heat!
Steer away from daily washings. Washing hair every single day is actually damaging because it strips the natural oils that your scalp produces. This results in dry and damaged hair that no one wants. If at all possible, try to cut back anerwash your hair every other day. This may be difficult during the summer months when stepping outdoors for 5 minutes can trigger the desire to run back inside and take an ice cold shower, but try pulling your hair back into a bun or using a shower cap to keep hair dry. Using a dry shampoo such as this one by Beyond The Zone can help keep your hair looking fresh and clean on those off days.
Use a sulfate-free shampoo and conditioner. Fun fact: Sulfate is found in most shampoos. Not so fun fact: it strips the moisture out of hair. It also causes color treated hair to fade faster. To avoid these unwanted side-effects use a shampoo that’s sulfate-free like the L’oreal Everpure. It doesn’t lather up into a nice bubbly concoction like we’re used to with most shampoos, but you’ll soon notice healthier hair.
Apply oil as a deep conditioning treatment. I like to do this every couple of weeks: spray water onto your hair until it’s slightly damp, then apply some type of oil to your hair (the best to use are olive oil, argon oil, or coconut oil). Make sure to concentrate on massaging it into your roots and coating the ends of your strands. Leave the oil in your hair for at least 20 minutes, hop in the shower, shampoo and condition as normal. The result will be visibly healthier and shinier hair!
Invest in a detangling leave-in conditioner. This is a must! No one likes dealing with tangled, wet hair after a shower. My favorite is the John Frieda Daily Nourishment Leave-in Conditioning Spray. Spritz this on right out of the shower and you’ll magically be able to run a comb through your hair.
Take the one month challenge! Refrain from any and all heat styling products for one whole month. Instead of using heating tools, try and use styling products like mousse or anti-frizz serum to manage stubborn hair. Although this seems like a long time to go without your precious blow dryer, your tresses will thank you by the end of the challenge. Split ends begone!
