The Miraculous Tea Tree Oil

You can achieve picture-perfect skin!

Tea tree oil seriously works miracles. If only it smelled better. After conducting some major research for my sad, acne-prone skin, I ran across a whole online conversation of women raving about this mystery product called tea tree oil. I had to check it out for myself, and scored a bottle of tea tree oil from Amazon. $10 and two days later, I applied it to each problem spot on my face before bed. I woke up with glowing, healthy-looking, acne-free skin. NO. JOKE.

So, what is it?
Tea tree oil (Melaleuca alternifolia) is an essential oil derived from leaves of the narrow-leaved tea tree, which is common to a southeastern region of Australia. The oil has all kinds of amazing attributes, and works wonders on a variety of external issues (like acne). Tea tree oil can also be applied to skin as an antiseptic (meaning it kills the possibility of infection) and has antibacterial and anti-fungal properties as well. Use this oil to relieve ailments including minor cuts, scrapes, athletes foot, lice, dandruff, blisters, minor burns, calluses, itchy scalp, cold sores and mosquito bites.

What does it do?
When applied to the skin, its natural qualities help remove any problem areas. Rather than drying out my skin, it just simply gets rid of my acne spots and soothes any redness. Since this product can be kind of messy (and smelly!) it’s best to dip one end of a cotton swab (q-tip) into the jar and apply with the swab rather than using a finger. If you’re applying to an area larger than your face, a cotton ball or pad will work, too.

Where can I find it?
I purchased a bottle of pharmaceutical grade Herbal Authority Tea Tree Oil from Amazon for about $10. There were tons of brands and various solutions – I just chose the cheapest one with the most ounces and the highest reviews. Always read the product description carefully before making the purchase to ensure what you’re paying for is real, genuine tea tree oil. Another great option: Aveda’s Tea Tree Oil ($14)

If you’re tired of being let down by useless product after useless product claiming to get rid of your acne, I highly recommend giving tea tree oil a try. It’s a relatively inexpensive option that will leave your skin pimple-free and healthy-looking again. And it’s the perfect skin saver for so many other issues, there’s really no reason you shouldn’t give it a go!
