How to Get Out of Your Makeup Rut

Mascara, you are our BFF.

It’s great to get your makeup look down to a routine in the morning because it saves you time and lets you sleep in those precious ten extra minutes, but putting on the same lipstick everyday can get a little boring. Here are some ways to switch up your routine and still get you out of the door in time.

1. Emphasize a Different Feature.
Do you always play up your eyes and keep your lips neutral? Try switching it up and bring the focus to your lips or even your skin or eyebrows. For those who find lipstick too much of a statement, try a lip stain or a bright lip gloss, it will have just as much impact.

2. Play with Textures and Colors.
You don’t have to buy a whole new arsenal of products to get a new look. Pretend like it’s art class and try mixing two (or three, or four!) lipstick shades together to get a new color or layer the shades in your eye shadow palette to form a new color.

To play with textures, try mixing in some moisturizer into your foundation to get a lighter more natural look. You can also mix in a bit of liquid bronzing gel to get a faux glow worthy of J.Lo.

3. Consider Product Placement.
Sometimes subtlety has as much impact as a dramatic change. Do you always apply mascara to just your top lashes? Try using it on the top and bottom lashes for a wide-eyed look or concentrate it on the outer corner of the eyes. If you always apply blush to the apples of your cheeks, try focusing it more on the cheekbones for a contoured look. Also, think of the possibilities with eyeliner. You can line the whole eye, just the bottom lashes, or try a cat eye, the options are endless!
